The Rise of Silas Lapham (Penguin Classics)

The Rise of Silas Lapham (Penguin Classics) - William Dean Howells, Kermit Vanderbilt This book is worth reading simply because of the structure -- it is perfectly symmetrical. there is an epiphany at the exact center and the opening and closing chapters are two different confessions -- one public, one private. It's an amazing work, though most people don't read it at this point.
